Tikhat - Mithachi Puri (Spicy Deep fried whole wheat bread)
Its winter here! Snow and cold!! Who will not like hot puris on a cold winter gloomy day?! The kids surely will love it! My everyday challenge is coming up with healthy, likable, kid friendly recipes for lunch box. After my son started full day school, I try to come up with something he will eat. Ariv asking for fried stuff so reminds me of my brother Priyadarshan who used to do the same. Lunch box comes back empty when I pack this for him. 4 Puris, handful strawberry and 2 cookies is lunch box for today.
Ingredients:
2 cups wheat flour
2 tbsp cumin ground
2 tsp Ajwain seeds ground
2 tsp chilly
4 tsp turmeric powder
4 tsp fenugreek leaves
handful finely chopped cilantro
Salt to taste
Vegetable oil
Method:
1. In a bowl, mix the wheat flour and all above ingredients. Add warm water and make soft dough. When it becomes soft and does not touch your hands and feels like play dough, you should be good. I apply some oil say 2 tsp to eat. This way does not need to much oil while frying.
2. Let stand for 2 hours. If you do not have time, can make immediately.
3. Take oil in frying pan and let it heat.
4. Fry puris on medium heat.
5. Serve hot with potato curry or ketchup.
