Puneri Misal!
My in laws are visiting this summer!! Chaitra - Gauri Haldi Kunku. This is the first time, I did Puja and invited all my girl friends from Marathi Mandal home. My mother in law makes awesome Misal Pav! So I worked with her to cook this dish. I will dedicate this post to her.
Ingredients:
To make usal:
2 cup Matki
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp mustard seeds
1 tsp asafoetida
1.5 tbsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp cumin powder
2 tbsp cilantro powder
1.5 tbsp Chilly powder
handful curry leaves
Salt to taste
For the curry:
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp turmeric powder2.5 tbsp Goda masala powder​​
1.5 tbsp Chilly powder
3 Tomato
3 Onion
2 potato boiled
2 cup Cilantro leaves
10-12 cloves garlic
1/2 inch ginger
Salt to taste
To assemble:
1 cup Shev (chick pea flour snack)
1 cup Farsaan (spicy chick pea flour snack)
1 Onion finely cut
1 Tomato finely cut
Method:
1. Wash Matki thoroughly. In a bowl, put the Matki and add water to cover it up to a inch. soak overnight. Next day, drain all the water and set in a colander. I put in oven with light on and you will sprouts in next 10-12 hours.
2. In a pressure cooker, cook the Mataki. Cover sprouted Mataki with water and cook till 2 whistles on medium flame and then 10 minutes on low flame. Turn off heat.
3. In a pot add 2 tbsp oil and turn on heat. Add asafoetida, cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves. When the seeds sputter, add cooked Matki to it.
4. Add cumin , cilantro powder and salt. Set aside.
5. Blend garlic , ginger, onion and tomato in a blender.
4. Pour 2 tbsp oil in a pot and add the blended paste from the blender above and cook for about 10-15 minutes.
5. Add boiled and cut potato and goda masala, chilly powder and salt.
6. Let boil for 5-10 minutes and the curry will be ready.
7. To assemble, in a bowl, add matki usal and the curry on top of it. Add fresh cut onion, tomato, shev and farsaan. Garnish with cilantro leaves and lemon juice.
8. Serve hot with white bread/paav on side.
